What happened in the 2019 Assembly Elections in Jharkhand

In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly Elections, the Mahagathbandhan—an opposition alliance of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress, and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)—dislodged the ruling BJP in the Jharkhand Assembly elections and formed the government.

The BJP won 30 seats, while the JMM-Congress-RJD alliance gained 44 and 7 seats remain vacant. This put them comfortably ahead of the 41-seat majority in the 81-member House and made Hemant Soren of JMM take oath as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
