Shah Rukh Khan welcomes Lionel Messi to Kolkata, football star clicks pictures with AbRam; fans call it ‘historic’

Football icon Lionel Messi is currently on a GOAT Tour of India 2025, and he visited Kolkata on Saturday. However, it turned into a double treat for fans as they got to witness Lionel Messi meeting Shah Rukh Khan at a special meet-and-greet session. The two global icons shook hands and exchanged a few words. Shah Rukh Khan’s younger son AbRam appeared visibly excited to meet Messi and was also seen posing with the football legend.

Videos of Shah Rukh Khan meeting Messi have since gone viral on social media. The clips show Shah Rukh entering the venue along with his manager Pooja Dadlani, her children, and AbRam. Amid the cheering crowd, SRK makes his way towards Messi and other football stars, Luis Suarez and Rodrigo De Paul, who are also touring India alongside the Argentine legend. Shah Rukh is first seen greeting Suarez and De Paul with a handshake before moving towards Messi and shaking hands with him. The two are then seen posing for photographs together, while Messi also takes pictures with AbRam. During the meet, Shah Rukh looked dashing in a white T-shirt paired with a yellow cardigan.

Fans called this moment ‘historic’. A fan commented on Shah Rukh Khan and Messi’s photo and, “A picture for the history books.” Another fan wrote, “Two GOATs, One moment the world will never forget.”

Earlier on December 13, Shah Rukh Khan was spotted at the airport with AbRam, fuelling speculation about his Kolkata visit. On December 11, King Khan had teased fans about meeting the football legend during his time in the city. Taking to X, he wrote, “This time round not planning my Knight in Kolkata…. and hoping the day Ride is completely ‘Messi’. See you guys on the 13th at the Salt Lake Stadium.”

During his visit to Kolkata, Messi also unveiled his towering 70-foot statue near Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium, drawing massive crowds. The Argentine legend is scheduled to meet former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during his stay. Messi is also set to travel to other cities as part of his India tour, including Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Delhi.
