WANT a feel of Pakistani pop? Buy a Bhatt soundtrack. The only Bhatt favourite missing from Kalyug Mukesh Bhatt8217;s latest release is former Junoon lead singer Ali Azmat. The line-up includes a new entry from Pakistan8212;Nazam Sheraz, Nusrat8217;s nephew Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, old flame Atif Aslam, who swept the charts with a single Woh Lamhe in Zeher and Jal, the band that later claimed the single was theirs, creating enough hype just before the film released.

Khan opens the album with Jiya Dhadak Dhadak Jaye, which doesn8217;t have the Dil ki Lagan charisma Paap, but works well for their promo. Aslam and Jal seem to have buried the hatchet and offer two versions of Aadat. Now we8217;re not too sure who composed the original, considering Jal remarked during the Woh Lamhe controversy: 8216;8216;We don8217;t need to prove whose original it is and make it messy or insult a film-maker of Mahesh Bhatt8217;s calibre.8217;8217;

Anyway, we prefer Jal8217;s acoustic version and Goher Mumtaz8217;s voice because Mumtaz manages to retain the classic style of singing, characteristic of Pakistani acts like Strings and Fuzon.

Anu Malik8217;s Thi Meri Dastan, a duet with Anuradha Paudwal and Indian Idol finalist Amit Sana, does nothing for Paudwal but does complete justice to Sana, who might turn out to be the next most sought-after voice for ghazals. Sana has proved that he can carve a niche of his own, unlike Rahul Vaidya who8217;s a Sonu clone. Alisha Chinai, another Malik favourite, is terrible in Dheere Dheere. Avoid.

Sheraz8217; vocals and track8212;Ye Pal8212;are completely uninspiring, and you realise that Kalyug hasn8217;t been able to do what Paap did for Pakistani music. And that isn8217;t because we8217;ve had a Pak pop OD, but only because the selection of songs is rather unappealing.
