Sultanpur DM Ravish Gupta had earlier confirmed the death of four girls. The body of a nine-year-old Khushi, the fifth girl, was found later by divers. She was pronounced dead by doctors.

The Circle Officer said in June, two FIRs were lodged against Surendra Vishkarma and Amit Vishkarma, two local residents, for allegedly assaulting members of the Dalit community. The complainants had alleged that they suffered serious injuries in the attack. An FIR were lodged on the basis of medico-legal reports of doctors posted at the district hospital.

Two persons, identified as Rakesh Tewari and Saroj Bajpayee, were arrested. Rakesh, Saroj and the third accused,Radheshyam Mishra, who is at large, are members of a family. Police are making efforts to arrest him.

The STF conducted a raid in Keutia area under Basudebpur police station in Barrackpur on Thursday following a tip-off and claimed to have arrested the trio with 100 kg of explosives.
