After a poor start, gritty knocks from Nat Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur helped the Mumbai Indians post 154/5 in 20 overs against the Delhi Capitals in 2026 Women’s Premier League Match No. 13 at the BCA Stadium in Kotambi, Vadodara.
With the race for the WPL heating up, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians will take on the Jemimah Rodrigues-led Delhi Capitals in Vadodara, on Tuesday.
MI currently sits second in the standings with four points from five games, while DC are placed last with just two wins from four. The last time these two teams met in the league, MI defeated DC by 50 runs in Navi Mumbai.
The defending champions, MI, began their WPL 2026 campaign with a loss to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru before winning their next two games against DC and the Gujarat Giants. They were then handed back-to-back losses by the UP Warriorz. Meanwhile, DC lost to MI in their season opener before falling to the Gujarat Giants in a close four-run defeat. They subsequently beat the UP Warriorz, but then lost to RCB.

To be honest, it wasn't a nice wicket to bowl on. I would have liked some more wickets, but I'm happy with that score, even though I don't think it's going to be that easy to chase. (bowling 4 in a row) Yeah, look, it's what I've been doing for the last few seasons. I just felt like today if I could get through Nat or Harman there, it would open up their batting line up a little bit. Unfortunately, it didn't work, but I still feel like it's a chaseable score. (what has changed from Mumbai in terms of the pitch here?) No it's pretty similar. Like I said, it's actually still not a nice wicket to bowl on. I'm still hoping I'm going to get my green wicket one day. But no, I feel like I was actually probably a little bit fuller tonight. Might be wrong, but yeah, it just looks like it was very difficult to get underneath the ball. I just feel like there wasn't any movement, there wasn't a lot of bounce. I don't really like wickets like this. (on the Matthews wicket) Oh, it didn't look like it. It looked like it was fairly straight, to be honest.
Lucy Hamilton to finish off the innings. NSB starts with a dot. FOUR! Cheeky stuff from Nat Scriver-Brunt, who reads the length early, shuffles across and plays the scoop fine for a boundary. Hamilton has done considerably well to give just three singles off the following three deliveries. SIX! Wow, perfect way to end the over and the innings. Sanskriti Gupta shimmies down the track and deposits the length ball in the middle at long-on. Mumbai go past 150 and puts 154 on the board. The average first innings total is 156 at this venue ahead of the RCB vs GG game. Can Mumbai defend this under-par total in a chase-friendly venue? We will have to wait and see.

Mumbai skipper falls this time. Harman dances down the track, goes for a big shot but mishits to Lucy Hamilton at long-on. This marks the end of a phenomenal rearguard action from Harman. Two sweeps to get boundaries at the deep square leg region and one at the backward point. 14 from this over, and the innings have only gotten better for two-time champion MI.

Jemimah Rodrigues: We will bowl first. I think under lights, the ball skids on a lot more, so I think that was the reason to bowl first. With the dew coming in, it’s going to help us a lot more. I think because the ball is staying low, as a batting unit going through the line and playing as straight as possible works well. For the bowlers, it’s about keeping the stumps in play at all times. We’ve just been talking about keeping things simple. We know we’ve got to win, but rather than focus on that, we are concentrating on the process; what we need to do and how we execute it. The results will take care of themselves. We have one change. The youngster Deeya Yadav comes in. She’s 16, but she can really smash the ball out of the park. That’s all I’ll say.
Harmanpreet Kaur: Yes, definitely (we would have bowled first). We had a very good couple of days. We all sat together and had some really good conversations. Hopefully, we’ll play our best cricket today because I feel in the last two games we weren’t at our best. Hopefully, we’ll come out with positive energy today. We have four changes. We have a new wicketkeeper coming in - Rahila. Kamalini got injured and is ruled out of the tournament. Vaishnavi Sharma comes back. She’s a left-arm spinner and is also making her debut today. Left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma was drafted into the Mumbai Indians squad for the rest of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 season as a replacement for wicketkeeper-batter G Kamalini, who was ruled out due to an injury.
A WPL release said that the 20-year-old cricketer, who had gone unsold at the mega auction in November, had been acquired by the franchise for Rs 30 lakh. She made her international debut in the five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka in December, where she claimed five wickets as the hosts won 5-0.

With defending champions Mumbai Indians losing their second match on the bounce, both incidentally to the same opponent, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur rued the missed chances in the match against UP Warriorz on Saturday. She also stressed that the team needed to a more positive mindset during the powerplay.
“We wanted to chase as a group. And I think even though we didn’t bowl well, we were still able to restrict them to less than 200 runs, which was a good thing. But I think in batting, we were not great in the powerplay. Every game, we are not coming up with a positive mindset in the powerplay. That’s something we really need to work on in the batting powerplay,” she said after the match.
