China confirms two Tibetans executed

BEIJING: China said on Tuesday that two Tibetans had been executed for their role in deadly ethnic unrest that rocked the Himalayan region last year,the first known use of capital punishment over the violence.The confirmation by foreign ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu came after several overseas activist groups had reported that up to four Tibetans were shot dead by Chinese firing squads over the violence that erupted in March 2008 as Beijing prepared to host the Summer Olympics.

16 footballers held for raping 2 women

MELBOURNE: Australian police on Tuesday arrested 16 suburban league footballers for allegedly raping two women at a tourist spot in Phillip Island. The men,aged between 17 and 20,were taken into custody after raids on four properties in Montmorency,Bundoora and Briar Hill early Tuesday morning,The Age said. The accused,members of Northern Football League allegedly sexually assaulted two women on October 10.
