Babhali issue: Naidu in Capital to meet leaders

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu will meet a host of leaders of national parties in New Delhi on Sunday to muster support for his partys struggle against Maharashtra over the construction of the Babhali project on river Godavari. The TDP politburo which met under Naidus chairmanship on Saturday decided to seek the support of national parties on the issue. The TDP delegation is scheduled to attend an all-party meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at 5 pm on July 26.

Another honour killing in Punjab

HOSHIARPUR: A 20-year-old youth allegedly strangled his teenage sister and threw her body in a canal in a suspected case of honour killing in Hoshiarpur district of Punjab. Mani Pratap Kaushal confessed he had strangled his sister Kanchan with an electric wire as he doubted her character,SSP Rakesh Aggarwal told mediapersons here

GJM,Buddha to submit proposals

NEW DELHI: The West Bengal government and the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha GJM will submit their pointwise observations and reactions to the Centres proposal pertaining to the Gorkha Interim Authority within two weeks. This was decided on Saturday in the second round of political level tripartite talks between the Centre,the West Bengal government and the GJM. The meeting was Chaired by the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Maken.

Cognisance of charges in spy case

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Saturday took cognisance of the over 700-page chargesheet filed against diplomat Madhuri Gupta,accused of passing on classified information to Pakistani intelligence agencies. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja took cognisance of the charges under several sections of the Official Secrets Act and Indian Penal Code against Gupta.

Nine acquitted in Kandhamal case

PHULBANI ORISSA: A fast-track court here on Saturday acquitted nine persons accused of indulging in communal violence in Kandhamal district in 2008 due to lack of evidence. The nine belonged to Baraganda village under Gochapara police station and were arrested on charges of arson,unlawful assembly and other sections under the Riots Act.

Forces demolish Maoist camps

MALKANGIRI ORISSA: Security forces demolished several Maoist camps during an encounter with the rebels and seized a large cache of arms and ammunition in Orissas Malkangiri district,police said. Camps set up by the ultras in Paplur and Teakwada forests were raided by APs Greyhound Force and Orissas Special Operations Group.
