
KHARAR, JULY 20: Two persons, including a woman, were killed on the spot while two others were seriously injured when a Maruti car in which they were travelling collided head-on with a speeding truck on Kharar-Roopnagar highway near Daonmajra village, about 2 km from here this morning.
The deceased have been identified as Mohinder Kaur 65, resident of Kurali, and Sangat Singh 60, resident of Ambala. Sohan Singh 45 and Avtar Singh 24, both residents of Kurali, who sustained serious injuries, were immediately rushed to Kharar Civil Hospital from where they were referred to the PGI, Chandigarh, in a critical condition being administered first aid, according to Kharar Civil Hospital Senior Medical Officer SMO Dr S.S. Dhanoa.
According to reports, the mishap took place at about 10 a.m. when a speeding truck PB-12-3864 on its way from Kharar towards Roopnagar, collided with a white Maruti car PCL-8 coming from the opposite direction.
According to sources, the victims were on their way from Kurali to Chandigarh to visit their ailing relative in PGI.
Meanwhile, in view of the increasing number of accident cases on highways, Deputy Commissioner Kulbir Singh Sidhu, Roopnagar, has asked the Senior Superintendent of Police and District Transport Officer DTO to launch a special campaign against over-speeding vehicles in the entire district.
Sidhu said the district officials have been directed to strictly implement traffic regulations in the entire district as per the orders of Punjab and Haryana High Court.
