
SURAT, May 9: The doomsday8217; predictions were shown up as the baseless rumours they were, but six workers found themselves charged with rioting and damaging property after they went on the rampage at the Limbayat industrial unit they worked in.
They were demanding their salaries so that they could return to their native Orissa rightaway; their employer Kishore Parshottam, of Laxmi Industries, Mahaprabhunagar, said they would be paid by Saturday evening.
In a complaint lodged with the Limbayat police, Parshottam accused Baapi Jaydev, Ramesh Bharat Nahak and four others of coming to the unit on Saturday morning and demanding their salaries.
Parshottam said that after he told them they would be paid by evening, they barged into his office and broke the furniture, the television, the telephone and other items before assaulting him. Limbayat PSI P C Borse, in charge of the case, said that all six were absconding.
