
Despite the tall claims made by Chief Minister Mayawati of providing a crime-free rule, little has been done on the ground, with several BSP parliamentarians and legislators under the cloud of criminal activities.
In the last one-and-a-half years, the number of tainted ministers has been on the rise. This, however, has not deterred Mayawati from inducting them in her Cabinet.
Anna Shukla, man with a past, was recently inducted in the party. But Mayawati said if a person with a criminal past wanted to reform himself, he should be given a chance.

Anna Shukla
Charges: One of the main accused in the much-hyped case of attack on Mayawati at state guest house in Lucknow in June 1995.
He has been named in over a dozen cases of heinous crimes at different police stations of Lucknow since 1980. He is still registered as a historysheeter at the Hasanganj police station.
Uma Kant Yadav
Designation: MP from Machlishahar
Charges: Yadav has been in the jail since May 30, 2007 on charges of allegedly bulldozing some shops and houses in an attempt to forcibly occupy a piece of land in Palia Mafi village.
Status: Circle Officer of Phoolpur Shailendra Kumar Rai said the chargesheet has been filed in the case.
Anandsen Yadav
Designation: Former Minister of State for Food Preservation
Charges: Arrested for his alleged involvement in the Shashi murder case. Shashi was a law student from Faizabad, who went missing in October 2007.
Status: Investigating Officer SC Pandey said the chargesheet has been filed and now the charges are to be framed.
Jamuna Prasad Nishad
Designation: Former Fisheries Minister
Charges: Protesting against alleged mishandling of a rape case, Nishad and his supporters forced their way into the Maharajganj Kotwali police station and killed constable Krishnanand Rai.
Status: Investigating Officer Inspector Ravi Chand Mishra says that the chargesheet against Nishad and 13 others has been filed
Bhagwan Sharma alias Guddu Pandit
Designation: MLA from Dibai
Charges: Arrested after a research scholar in Agra University accused him of rape. The case was registered at the Kasganj police station in Kashiram Nagar.
Status: Investigating Officer Inspector, Dulare Lal Arun said, 8220;Medical report confirmed the girl was raped. The chargesheet has been filed.8221; Guddu is, however, out on bail.
Subash Dohre
Designation: Senior party worker
Charges: Dohre and 11 others were booked for attacking policemen and attempting to release two criminals from a police lock-up in Kannauj on September 11. Dohre and his supporters also pelted stones at the police officers.
Status: Superintendent of Police of Kannauj Prakash Tripathi said, 8220;After the incident, the accused were arrested and sent to jail.8221;
Ram Raksha Pal
Designation: BSP national secretary and in-charge of Jharkhand
Charges: Arrested for killing a Dalit autorickshaw driver and Bhagwandas, a caterer in Chuppepur village in Varanasi in May 2008.
Status: Acting in-charge of the Sagra police station Raj Kumar said all the accused were out on bail. The incident took place over a land dispute, he added.
