MUMBAI: A one-and-half-year-old girl died after she slipped off from the hands of her grandfather on an escalator in Oberoi Mall in Malad on Monday evening. According to Vinayak Kakade of the Dindoshi police station,Hasmukhbhai,a resident of Kurar,had gone to the mall with his granddaughter Angi Patni and her mother Harshida. Around 6.30 pm,Hasmukbhai was climbing down the escalator carrying Patni when she slipped from his hands. She was rushed to hospital,but succumbed to her injuries there.

Ex-Osmanabad MP dies of swine flu

OSMANABAD: Former MP from Osmanabad Arvind Tulsiram Kamble 58 who was suffering from swine flu,passed away at a hospital in Pune on Monday. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Osmanabad constituency in 1984,1989,1991 and 1998. He was also minister in the Maharashtra government in early 80s. He was infected by H1N1 virus two weeks ago.

Two lynched for molesting women

NAWADA: Two persons were lynched and another thrashed for allegedly molesting some girls at Belar village in Bihars Nawada district on Sunday night. Police sources said Umesh Singh,Gopal Singh and Surendra Singh allegedly molested some girls sleeping in the huts. As they raised an alarm,angry neighbours beat them up. While Umesh and Gopal succumbed to their injuries,Surendra was rushed to a hospital where his condition was said to be critical.

HC notices to MP,MoEF over mining

BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued notices to the state government and Union Environment Ministry over illegal sand mining and directed them to submit their responses in a week. The courts directions came on a PIL by Prayatna,an NGO.

Kerala alcoholism worries President

KOCHI: Concerned over the rise in alcoholism in Kerala,President Pratibha Patil on Monday said it was surprising to see this in a state where social indicators were impressive and women had taken remarkable strides. 8230;I am surprised to learn in spite of this,alcoholism is rampant and women are worst sufferers, she said. Her remarks came in the wake of the state registering a record Rs 45-crore liquor sales this Christmas season. PTI
