After ugly scenes late Monday night when Anna Hazare supporters, following a speech by lawyer Shanti Bhushan, scuffled with mediapersons at Jantar Mantar, the language of non-violence returned on the Lokpal fast stage on Tuesday.
Hazare was back to enunciating his non-violent principle from 2011 if you turn violent,it will take the government minutes to crush you as he apologised for the misbehaviour of his supporters. Hazare said if such incidents recurred,he would call off the movement.
On Monday,Shanti Bhushan criticised the media for their misreporting on the agitation and said it was basically the fault of the editors and not the reporters. The crowd turned on the mediapersons at the venue mostly those from the electronic media and a scuffle ensued despite volunteers trying to soothe tempers. This was the second time that reporters at the venue were at the receiving end of crowd ire. On Saturday,a similar incident had happened.
Hazare and his team members Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia apologised for the misbehaviour. Kejriwal said: Last night Shanti Bhushan said that media bosses are not playing the events properly, this instigated the crowd and they misbehaved with the media. I apologise for this.
In his evening address,Hazare, miffed by the governments apparent indifference to the stir, also offered to return his Padma Bhush-an. The government says it will not send any representative to talk to us. We dont want anyone to come and talk to us8230;. I am not even ready to talk to the Prime Minister8230;. I can return Padma Bhushan right now. The people have given me such a big award, he said.
