Neha Dhupia gets candid about experimenting with her looks in the upcoming film movies,Rush and Maximum, her business venture and more.

Is your new look with the trendy short hairstyle in Rush inspired by Sharon Tate as reported?

I don’t know if my look is inspired by Sharon but the look was my director Shamin Desai’s inspiration, and when he saw me playing the part,he liked the way I carried it. It is inspired from Wall Street and today’s confident young woman.

Was it difficult for him to convince you to change your hairstyle?

I had no idea how I would look with short hair. I have always had long, black hair and for me,it was a bold step. But thankfully it has worked!

What are you playing in the film?

I work for the media, actually I run a news channel, and Emraan Hashmi and I,for most part of the film, are in a very competitive space.

How did you find Emraan as a co-star?

Amazing! He’s so relaxed,so sweet,so loving and humble. He could be on the sets and you wouldn’t even know he’s around, and that despite being this huge persona who is really up there today!

Are you relieved that Rush that was the dream of debutant director Shamin Desai, who died before completing the film,is finally being realised?

Shamin’s death was very unfortunate and a huge loss, and was all the more reason for the entire unit to see that his dream was realised. It took a while to do so and I hope the audience realises how much we have been through. His wife Priyanka was very strong and recently completed shooting the songs. Yes,it’s a relief.

How was the transition for Priyanka who was assisting Shamin on the film?

Priyanka was always present during the shootings so she had a good idea of what her husband wanted. Basically she had to oversee the shooting of five songs of which I was a part of three. She’s a very creative person.

First ‘Phas Gaye Re Obama’,now ‘Rush’ and after this Maximum, are you enjoying sporting different looks in your movies?

I respect actors who do the commercial entertainers but I love being part of different cinema. I surprised myself with my look in Phas Gaye, and now I have Maximum coming up with Sonu Sood and Naseeruddin Shah where I have a completely different getup. I have never clad myself in a cotton saree and played the good housewife before and I was surprised that Kabir Kaushik thought of me for the role.

What else is in the offing?

I have something big and interesting coming up with a director who has been on my wish list, but I cannot talk about it now.

What’s happening to your e-commerce venture, your online shopping business?

I am an online shopping addict and love to shop for shoes and clothes all the time from various sites. I got into e-commerce because that space interests me. There has been no official launch but a range of lingerie and shoes are already online and I should be adding more products.

Since you are very fashion conscious, who are your fashion idols?

It would be Audrey Hepburn and back home Sonam Kapoor. I love Audrey for her classic style and elegance. And Sonam as she carries herself very well be it Indian wear or western outfits. l
