White House confirms n-summit on April 12-13

Washington: US President Barack Obama will host a two-day summit on nuclear security beginning April 12,during which key global leaders including Indias Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are likely to get together to discuss ways to secure atomic material and prevent acts of nuclear terrorism. On April 12th and 13th the US President will host the Nuclear Security Summit at the Washington Convention Center, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs announced on Friday.

Shoe incident gave Wens mother haemorrhage

BEIJING: The mother of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao suffered a cerebral haemorrhage last year when she saw television footage of a student throwing a shoe at her son while he was visiting Britain,state media said on Saturday. Wen disclosed his mothers illness during an online chat on Saturday. He said she still had difficulty walking and was suffering from vision problems. The Chinese transcripts of his question-and-answer session were ambiguous as to whether Wens mother suffered the haemorrhage when she saw the incident on television or once Wen had returned to China.

Iran hangs eight for drug trafficking,murder

Tehran: Iran has hanged five men convicted of drug trafficking and three found guilty of murdering policemen,reports said on Saturday. Five armed drug traffickers were hanged inside a prison in the southern city of Kerman,Irans ISNA news agency reported without elaborating when the executions were carried out. In a separate report,the official IRNA news agency said that three men convicted of killing several policemen were hanged in the eastern city of Birjand. The three were put to death in front of the families of the slain policemen,the news agency said,without specifying whether the executions were carried out inside a prison or in a public place.

Breast implants save woman from gunshot

Washington: Lydia Carranzas size-D silicone implants saved her life when she was shot at point blank range with a semi-automatic assault rifle,by taking the force of the blow and stopping bullet fragments from reaching her vital organs. Carranza was working in the office of a dentist in Beverly Hills,California when a gunman ran in and opened fire,the Los Angeles Times reported. He aimed the weapon directly at her heart but one of her silicone implants took the force of the blow,stopping bullet fragments from reaching her vital organs. The gunman had gone to the dental office looking for his wife,who also worked there. She was shot and killed in the attack. Carranza was sitting a few feet away when the gunman turned on her. Shes just one lucky woman, surgeon Dr Ashkan Ghavami said,adding the bullet fragments were millimetres from her heart and her vital organs. Had she not had the implant,she might not be alive today. Carranza,a mother of three and grandmother of two,had implants some years ago to change from a B-cup to a D-cup. When the gun was pointed at her she didnt look or think about it. I just felt wet in my chest area. I thought I was going to die, she said.

Man with longest hair in world dies at 79

Beijing: A Vietnamese man,believed to have the longest hair in the world over six metres long has died in the Vietnams province of Kien Giang. The exact length of Tran Van Hays unwashed hair was unclear but some estimates put it at 6.8 metres. He died on Wednesday at 79. Chinas Xie Qiuping is officially recorded as having the worlds longest hair at 5.6 metres in 2004,according to the Guinness World Records. Hay began to let them grow more than 50 years ago because he got sick after a haircut,the Vietnam News quoted his wife as saying. Agencies
