Undeclared foreign currency seized from ship

Undeclared foreign currency to the tune of about Rs 9 lakh, 33 foreign liquor bottles and 30 cartons of foreign

cigarettes have been seized from a ship M T Rising which arrived here from Singapore. The crew claimed they had not declared the same as they were afraid of pirates and thieves. However, the adjudicating authority imposed a redemption fine and penalty of Rs 50,000. It is suspected that other ships may also be involved in such concealments.
