Schools reopen, to hold extra classes

With Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti SAYSS calling off its stir and schools in the state expected to reopen on Monday, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has decided to hold additional classes in all schools to complete syllabus on time. With the state already having a high number of dropouts, the ongoing agitation has further resulted in the loss of working days.

Jammu and Kashmir Education Secretary, G A Peer, said, 8220;To compensate the loss of the students during curfew we will be taking supplementary classes. One hour extra tuition to the students everyday can help complete the syllabus.8221; Peer said in case the syllabus still remains incomplete, students will be given concession and wider choice in the examinations. 8220;We will hold meeting with State Board of School Education SBOSE officials for giving wider choice to the students.8221; he added.

Chief Education Officer CEO, Jammu, Suresh Kumar, said, 8220;Students from primary level upto the middle class will be examined only for that part of the syllabus which has been completed. Teachers would have to put in extra classes to complete the syllabus on time.8221;

8220; Students have suffered a lot in terms of number of working days. Primary schools and Class XI classes could not start after summer vacations because of the Amarnath land transfer row,8221; added Kumar.

Meanwhile, the Government on Sunday also issued an order that colleges across Jammu will begin their classes from Monday. Director Colleges, N D Wani, said, 8220;We are holding meetings with principals of all the colleges to find measures for completion of the syllabus.8221;
