MUMBAI, APRIL 21: J Sai Jayalakshmy started her campaign in the $5000 ITF Women's Circuit with a straight set win at the GA Ranade Tennis Centre today. She was not the only one to score in two. Not one match went into the third set as all the remaining seeds advanced to the quarter-finals of the first leg of the circuit. Sonal Phadke gave the top seeded Jayalakshmy obdurate resistance in the first set and then caved in the second for Jayalakshmy to book a quarter-final place with a 6-4, 6-1 one hour, five minute effort of consistency. She is joined in the last eight by Rushmi Chakravarthi, Sumitra Rao, Radhika Tulpule, Tara Kanbargimath, Sheethal Goutham, Harsimran Kaur Bedi and Arthi Venkatraman.Tulpule, having tasted blood with the scalp of the second seed in the opening round, found Karishma Patel easy meat. Patel, one of those whose school exams are due soon, fell 0-6, 0-6 in 50 minutes.Jayalakshmy, whose two-and-half month stint in Europe and a successful endeavour in the Satellite circuit lastyear had sent her ranking spiralling up, moved 3-0 up quickly. Trouble raised its ugly head 3-1 up on serve. She saved three break points, served a double fault and then lost serve. Phadke closed in the gap, 3-3, saved four break points on serve to emulate her rival and then heaved a sigh of relief. After the two traded breaks - Jayalakshmy missing a rare overhead put-away - the top seed moved in on the kill. She stepped on the throttle after gaining the advantage with a set point, putting a volley deep to ensure no hassles. That done, the second set was eventless bar a netted backhand by Jayalakshmy which gave Phadke her only game in the set. The result was, but, inevitable as Jayalakshmy showed two minutes later.ResultsSingles (pre-quarterfinals): J Sai Jayalakshmy bt Sonal Phadke 6-4, 6-1; Rushmi Chakravarthi bt Sandhya Kanury 6-2, 6-2; Sumitra Rao bt Nikhila Palat 6-2, 6-0; Radhika Tulpule bt Karishma Patel 6-0, 6-0; SK Tara w/o Radhika Mandke; Sheethal Gautham bt Nikita Bharadwaj6-2, 6-0; Harsimran Kaur Bedi bt Padmapreetham Mahalingam 6-2, 6-2; Arthi Venkatraman bt Sricharanya Thyagarajan 6-3, 6-1.Doubles (quarter-finals): Rushmi Chakravarthi/Sai Jayalakshmy bt Simmi Rani/Karishma Patel 6-0, 1-0 conceded; Janaki Krishnamoorthy/Radhika Tulpule bt Nikhila Palat/Geeta Manohar 6-2, 6-0; Sheethal Gautham/Shruti Dhawan bt Harsimran Kaur Bedi/Nikita Bharadwaj 6-0, 6-2; Sumitra Rao/Tara Kanbargimath bt Arthi Venkatraman/Anna Nefedova 6-3, 6-4.
