Shenyang China, Oct 14: India today took a one point lead after the end of the sixth round at the 12th Asian Team Chess championship here.

India defeated Iran 3.5-0.5, to lead the table at 16.5 points.

Kazakhstan 14 outplayed overnight leaders The Philipines 15 2.5-0.5 and Uzbekistan 14 held China A8217; at 15.5 points after 2-2 draw.

On the top board K Sasikiran opted for an irregular Queen-Pawn Opening against Ghaem Meghami Ishan and hold a good position.

In second time control Sasi missed the correct line and dropped half a point. Abhijit Kunte won a tactical game of Sicilian Defence against Gorbani Mohsen. DV Prasad won convincingly against former Asian sub-junior Amir Mallahi in rook and pawn ending. GB Prakash scored against Abbasifar Hasan.

In the women8217;s section India are at third spot with 6 points after four rounds. S Vijayalakshmi and Safira Shanaz lost, while Swati Ghate drew against Li Ruofin of China B8217; today.

Yesterday night, Sasikran8217;s win had helped the men defeat overnight leaders Philippines 2.5-1.5 in the fifth round to move up to second spot, while the women suffered a reverse, going down fighting to top seed China A8217; 1-2 despite a major upset by Vijayalakshmi Subbaraman.

Vijayalakshmi, obviously rejuvenated after yesterday8217;s rest day, defeated Wgm Wang Lei on the top board.
