Cops: immersion points to be increased

This year, a lot of Ganesh mandals cooperated with us and followed the guidelines told to them. But a few did not cooperate as per our expectations,8221; said police commissioner Satyapal Singh.

8220;We also got calls warning us about threats to security during the Ganesh immersion procession. We also received information from sources regarding security issues,8221; Singh said.When asked how people cooperated with the police during the procession, Singh said, 8220;Because of the efforts taken by the police, people are alert now. We thank the people of Pune for being alert and informing us whenever they suspected anything8221; Joint Commissioner Ranjendra Sonavne said that this year, the immersion procession was over within twenty-five hours and the police could also reduce procession time of various mandals.

According to Singh, the police have taken action against some people and mandals which flouted rules.8221; This year, police had employed camerapersons at various roads in the city to record the immersion procession. Singh said the police would study the data recorded, which would help them to manage crowds better in future.
