ROOPNAGAR, Aug 10: The son of Kharar MLA and a senior leader of the All India Shiromani Akali Dal, Rajbir Singh, has charged the ruling Akali Dal with trying to implicate him in a false case and planning to arrest him in connivance with the district police.

He alleged that senior police officers had initiated a 8220;motivated inquiry8221; against him at the behest of ruling Akali Dal candidate Satwinder Kaur Dhaliwal, for intimidating voters. However, Superintendent of Police Operations Gurmeet Singh 8211; whom Rajbir Singh has charged with initiating the inquiry 8211; has denied the allegations.

Rajbir Singh has also alleged that other loyalists of AISAD chief Gurcharan Singh Tohra are being subjected to humiliating inquiries by the state CID wing. To support his claim he has said that landlords at the election office in Kharar were made to answer inconvenient questions by the CID officers on the day it was inaugurated by Tohra. Rajbir Singh8217;s mother, Bibi Daljeet Kaur, who represents the Kharar Assembly segment, is among the Akali Dal MLAs who were served notice by the party high command for teaming up with Tohra.

Rajbir is actively participating in campaigning for AISAD candidate for Roopnagar seat, Balbir Kaur Khalsa. Speaking to The Indian Express, Balbir Kaur Khalsa said she was being subjected to persistent pressure by the ruling Akali Dal to reconsider her decision to contest against Dhaliwal. She also alleged that the party was trying to lure her by offering a ministry to her son in the Punjab Cabinet.
