PUNE, Nov 29: Located amidst a serene environment atop Tiwai hill in the picturesque valley of the Bhima river, the Sahyadri Study Centre, a part of the Pune education centre of the Krishnamurti Foundation India (KFI), was inaugurated today by Radha Burnier, trustee of the Foundation. The KFI's Sahyadri school, in its fourth academic year now, is also located on the sprawling 55-acre campus atop the hill near Wada village in Rajgurunagar taluka. The study centre has been made open for visitors from December 1.``There are many study centres but most of them are of academic importance. When utter confusion now prevails in the world and when there is degeneration of human lives, this study centre will help us to be true and wise human-beings'', observed Burnier in her inaugural address.Earlier in his welcome speech, secretary of the foundation P H Patwardhan recalled how the idea of the Sahyadri project was conceived and started in 1993 when late industrialist Navalmal Firodia and late freedom fighter Achyut Patwardhan located the site for the residential school. The place was ideally suited for the study centre and the residential school with the location giving a view of a wide horizon, amidst impregnable silence and the lush surroundings, he observed. Secretary of the KFI O R Rao presented mementos to architects and developers of the project on the occasion. Among others who were present included Dr Satish Inamdar, director of the the Valley School at Bangalore.Giving details of the study centre Dr Sunanda Patwardhan said that there was no fixed routine for the visitors. As the accommodation was limited, it was necessary that bookings be made one month in advance. Earlier a book containing select extracts of J Krishnamurti's talks and writings was released. R R Upasani proposed a vote of thanks. The residential school, affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, offers a variety of subjects including crafts, dance, and music.
