CHANDIGARH, Oct 5: Claiming to have started the process of appointing assistant professors in the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research here, the counsel for director B.K. Sharma and another respondent stated that associate professors and professors would also be appointed.
In a statement before Justice V.S. Aggarwal of the Punjab and Haryana High Court here, the counsel stated that though the directions in a civil writ petition were confined to assistant professors, quot;they were going to appoint, as per the schedule, associate professors and professorsquot;. After hearing the counsel, Justice Aggarwal discharged the rule.
The High Court, it may be recalled, had directed the completion of process for selecting assistant professors in the PGIMER here by November 30 and had also directed the filling up of posts by December 15.
Pronouncing the directions, Justice Jawahar Lal Gupta and Justice V.M. Jain had further directed that the candidates quot;have to submit their applications by September 30quot;.
The bench had also directed that quot;all the applications for posts of the assistant professors shall be scrutinised within two weeks after the last date for receipt. The selection committees shall be constituted forthwithquot;.
Earlier, in their petition seeking contempt of court proceedings, the Faculty Association of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research had alleged that the respondents, quot;having the primary authority to fill up the vacancies, had not taken requisite steps to make the appointmentsquot;.
Alleging quot;wilful disobediencequot;, the counsel for the petitioner had stated that quot;despite numerous requests through notices, the respondents had not taken further steps to make the appointments and as such had shown scant respect for the High Court ordersquot;.
