
CHANDIGARH, Feb 26: The Finance and Contract Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh, today, recommended imposition of sewerage connection charges.
Talking to Newsline, city Mayor Kewal Krishan Adiwal said that the issue of charging for sewerage connections will be tabled before the 29-member house of the corporation for its approval. As per the recommendation made by the committee, residents owning houses with a covered area below 10 marlas will have to pay Rs 1,000 to get a new sewerage connection.
A minimum sewerage connection levy of Rs 500 per family will be charged from people owning EWS houses, while Rs 1,000 will be charged for providing sewerage connections to flats with a covered area of 501 sq. yd. to below 1000 sq. yards. The panel has recommended exemption for rehabilitated colonies, the mayor added.
The committee has recommended Rs 2,000 as the sewerage connection charge for houses having a covered area below one kanal, followed by Rs 3,000 for houses above one kanal.
