MbPT claim Sr Div title

MUMBAI, July 19: Mumbai Port trust MbPT annexed the BHA senior division title by drubbing Khalsa Gymkhana 7-0 in the concluding league match at Mahindra Stadium today. The tournament was sponsored by Punjab National Bank.A draw would have sufficed for MbPT to qualify for the super league, while they needed a win to top the league. They finished on par with SAI on points, but thanks to a better goal difference 25 to SAI8217;s 18, pushed SAI to second place.

Khalsa Gymkhana took the field with nine players that is the sorry state this erstwhile cradle of Mumbai hockey has been redued to. They were soon down 4-0, and played defensively in the second half to prevent a mauling. For MPT, Digvijay Naik 3, Shayne D8217;Costa 2, Rohin Fernandes and Salauddin Siddique scored.

Mhatre upsets Sakari

Fifth seed Narsingrao Sakari was upset by Nandakumar Mhatre in the pre-quarterfinals of the Kshatriya Club open district ranking carrom tournament yesterday. Mhatre won 21-9 14-3.
