Cylinder leak creates scare in Sassoon
Pune: Panic gripped the women patients at the delivery ward of the Sassoon general hospital after a gas leak from an oxygen cylinder this afternoon.

A glass cap over the regulator of the cylinder came off due to the excessive release of the gas when it was being handled around 1.15 pm. This caused anxiety among the patients who ran outside the ward for safety, taking it to be the sound of an explosion. A commotion prevailed because of the screaming of the women and the children.

Meanwhile, a section of the hospital staff, managed to plug the gas leak by using a spanner. Dean of the hospital Dr Mrudula Phadke too rushed to the ward and pacified the patients saying that there was no cause for panic.

Dr Phadke said that the leakage of the gas would not have caused any major mishap. Incidents of the excessive leakage of the gas had occurred in the past and there was no cause for any major concern, she added.
