FY B.Com divisions may increase

It may be noted that due to increase in the pass percentage of HSC commerce students, a large number of students in the city, especially those belonging to high school attached junior colleges are facing the problem of admissions.

Acknowledging that a large number of students were facing the admission problem, Wagh, however, said,8220;It will be too early to declare that how many divisions will be increased this year. The university will hold a meeting after collecting the relevant data at the end of first round of admissions.8221; The admissions from second and third merit lists will be completed by June 23.

Meanwhile, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has demanded a centralised admission procedure for FY BCom. The organisation has suggested that the seats falling vacant after admission of attached junior college students, should be filled up by the university through centralised admission process.

Addressing a press conference lasat week, the office bearers of ABVP expressed concern over the shortage of seats for FY BCom course in city colleges. 8220;About 4,500 to 5,000 students will be facing the problem of admissions this year following a hike in the pass percentage,8221; Dhananjay Kulkarni, an ABVP office-bearer, said.

The University of Pune should make necessary provisions to increase the number of divisions in the colleges so as to facilitate admissions for all eligible candidates, Kulkarni demanded.

Reflecting the views of the organisation on the proposed senior college teachers8217; strike, another APVP office-bearer Anand Mapuskar expressed concern over the academic loss of the students.

8220;Although we have supported the just demands of the teachers and have also agitated for their approval, we at the same time are very concerned over the academic loss of students due to the proposed strike by senior college teachers,8221; Mapuskar said.

Appealing to the teachers to take into consideration the students8217; interest, Mapuskar said that the ABVP would soon undertake a survey to ascertain how far the teachers were regularly holding classes and indulging in practices such as private tutions.

The ABVP office bearers also gave details of some of the important recommendations made by the organisation during its State executive council meeting held on May 30 and 31 at Parbhani.
