
The Election Commission today served a notice on the BJP state President and warned of action against the BJP candidates after general observers in their reports mentioned of efforts to bribe voters. The party candidates have reportedly been trying to enrol jobless youth with a promise of a monthly stipend of Rs 1,500.
The EC has said that the violation attracts the provision under section 123 of the Representation of People Act of 1951 and it also violates the Model Code of Conduct.
District Election Officer and Collector Santosh Vaidya served the notice on the BJP state President Sripad Naik.
The notice said general observers in their reports have mentioned that the BJP and associations affiliated to it are trying to distribute enrollment forms and register unemployed youths with a promise to pay them Rs 1,500 per month.
The notice also mentions that the flying squad of the returning officer has collected details of the Berojgar Jagruti Abhiyan of the BJP Yuva Morcha and also videographed the forms and the incident. An FIR under Section 171 of the IPC has also been registered at Vasco Police Station.
