Chelsea win FA Cup

MAY 20: Italain midfielder Roberto di Matteo seized on a 73rd minute goalkeeping mistake by David James to give Chelsea a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

Di Matteo, who scored the fastest-ever Wembley Cup final goal after 43 seconds when Chelsea beat Middlesbrough 2-0 three years ago, smashed in a loose ball from six metres out after james failed to collect a Gianfranco Zola cross.

Chelsea took charge in the second half and deserved the victory which secured them a place in next season’s UEFA Cup.

James had got away with a similar handling error 20 minutes earlier when Chelsea captain Dennis Wise put the ball in the net, only for the goal to be disallowed for an offside decision against George Weah.
