CHANDIGARH, Dec 1: Chandigarh team secured third place in the 14th National taekwondo championship which recently concluded at HMT Hall, Pinjore. According to information received here, Chandigarh bagged eighteen medals including four gold, ten silver and four bronze.

Sunil Channa was the most successful member of the team. He won gold in individual and team events in under-18 group (63kg to 71kg). He also got second position in group fight in the same category.

Surinder Singh (63 to 71kg) and Harish Kumar (below 54kg) were also winner of gold medals in above 18 years category in individual event.

Amarjit Singh (54 to 63kg) in above 18 and Kishan Singh (below 54kg) in below 18 years were winner of silver medal in both individual and team events.

Babloo Dharamveer (u-13), Vinod Sharma, Rajesh Kumar and GS Dhillon (above 18) were other players to win second place.

Amit Kumar and Amit Mittal (u-13) and Supneet Kaur (u-18) and Rekha (below 18) got bronze medal in the meet.

Minkey festival in Dec
Minkey festival (mini hockey) in three age groups will be held here at the Vivek High School in Sector 38, from December 10. According to information received here, in a two-day meet, competitions will be held in under-8, under-10 and under-12 in boys and girls section, respectively.

The event will be organised by Active Sports. Earlier, Active Sports had also organised Minkey clinic in the city.

Ruchika to lead
Ruchika will lead the Chandigarh girls (under-19) cricket team in the North Zone Girls Under-19 cricket tournament which starts at Panchkula from December 3, according to Archana Sharma, secretary, Chandigarh Women’s Cricket Association.

Chandigarh will play their first match against the formidable Haryana side on December 3. The trials were held today at Dev Samaj School in Sector 21.
Team: Ruchika (capt), Anuradha, Natasha Kaushik, Reenu, Shalini Gupta, Roshi Pathak, Sunita, Taranjot Kaur, Neena, Jyoti, Parul, Kavita, Natasha Jassal, Tripat and Monika Gujral.

Selection trials
Patiala:
Trials to select Patiala district teams in various discipline of sports will be held on December 8 at 2 p.m., at Polo ground. According to SS Tiwari, District Sports Officer, trials will be held in athletics, basketball, handball, gymnastics, kabbadi, judo and volleyball.

Teams selected will partiipate in Punjab state women festival to be held here on December 13 and 14.

Basketball camp
The Chandigarh youth basketball camp is in progress for the forthcoming Youth National championshipto be held in Rajasthan. The boys camp is being conducted at Sector 7 Sports Complex while the girls coaching camp isin full swing at Dev Samaj School-21.
