In probably the first incident of its kind, Rander police inspector Aniruddhasinh M Jadeja was suspended on Wednesday 8220;for being unable to control anti-social activities like gambling and running of liquor dens in his jurisdiction.8221;
Felicitation
The Surat Mercantile Co-operative Bank Ltd has decided to felicitate persons who contribute to the fields like education, social, economic, cultural, business, medical and journalism. The bank has also instituted a cash award of Rs 1 lakh, in recognition to the service by Kanhaiyyalal Kanjibhai Desai, which will be given every year to a resident of Surat district, who contributes to social, co-operative, education or agriculture sectors.

Zonal offices
The district education office has decided to start zonal offices from June 1 to ensure that no student aspiring to get admission into std 8th is left out in the academic year 1999-2000. The zonal offices will start functioning in R D Contractor High School in Nanpura, I N Tekrawala School in Rander, T and T V School, Gopipura, R N Nayak High School, Udhna, V T C Haripura Sarvajanik High School, Rampura and J A Mawani High School, Lambe Hanuman Road. The forms will be available from June 1 to June 5 from 11 am to 3 pm.
