Farmers to set up panel
Kolhapur: An action committee of farmers in Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara districts today resolved to form village-level vigilance committees to prevent the Maharashtra State Electricity Board MSEB officials from disconnecting power supply for non-payments of the bills.
With this, they have gone a step ahead in their battle against the hike in the agricultural power tariffs. The decision was taken after the MSEB8217;s show-cause notices asking them as to why their power supply should not be cut for non-payment of electricity bills.
The meeting, presided over by former minister N. D. Patil, felt an urgent need to prevent the MSEB from disconnecting the power supply. Several farmers from Sangli and Satara districts have already been served with the notices, the meeting was informed.
It was also decided that attempts by the MSEB officials to disconnect power supply would be foiled by the villagers under the leadership of these committees.
