NEW DELHI, October 13: It was another day of goals galore in the fifth Nehru girls hockey tournament at the National Stadium here today. As many as 26 goals were scored in the three matches scheduled for the day.
SGNP Girls High School (Sonepat) recorded a 12-0 win over Usha Bhawan High School (Manipur), Government Girls High School (Patna) crushed Modern School (Vasant Vihar) 11-0 and Government High School (Ranchi) defeated Government Girls Senior Secondary School (Ghuman Hera) 3-0.
A five goal effort by Nisha Kumari, including a hat-trick, was the highlight of Government Girls High School (Patna) win over Delhi’s Modern School. She scored the team’s third, fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth goals, the last one being a penalty corner conversion. The rest were all field goals.
Other goals were scored by Ritika Ranjan, Ranjana, Poonam Kumari (2), Sweta Kumari and Smita Kumari. The winners led 6-0 at the interval.
Simrajeet Kaur, Balwinder Kaur (2), Suman Bala (3), Amandeep Kaur, Surinder Kaur (4) and Meenakshi (stroke) scored in Sonepat team’s runaway 12-0 win over the Manipur girls team. The winners had a handsome 5-0 lead at the end of the firest half.
Jyoti Soreng scored two goals (10th and 35th minutes) while Masira Surin (17th minute) scored once in Ranchi school’s win over Ghuman Hera team.
Title for Shiksha
Shiksha Bharati Public School humbled Hira Public School in the final of the inter-school soccer zone-21 (south-west) tournament at Shiksha Bharati grounds.
