MUMBAI, Dec 3: Western Railway officials on Wednesday nabbed a conman who was sending out faxes for seats in the Western Railway8217;s emergency quota on the forged letterheads of various union cabinet ministers.

Rajesh Waghela 26 was handed over to the Azad Maidan police for cheating and impersonation. Though the faxes with requests for IInd class seats on different trains had been sent out to the offices of the General Manager, Additional General Manager, and public relations officers, they were all sent to the DRM8217;s office at Mumbai Central for clearance.

A senior official at the DRM8217;s office smelt a rat when he saw a letter from George Fernandes personally addressed to him. He pulled out all the other request letters from the offices of Murli Manohar Joshi, L K Advani and Suresh Prabu, sent from the same local fax number, within minutes of each other.

After verifying with the offices of the union ministers, WR officials laid a trap for the conman. He was traced using the fax number and asked to cometo the General Manager8217;s office where he was nabbed and handed over to the Azad Maidan police station.
