The victim had approached the Aligarh police and charged Garg with sexually exploiting her for a long time. Subsequently, the Aligarh police lodged an FIR under sections 376, 504, 506, 323 and 293 of the Indian Penal Code, and 3/6 of the Indecent Representation of Women Act.

According to the Additional Director General of Police Law and Order Brij Lal, the complainant has also given a video CD and her recorded telephonic conversation with Garg as evidence in the case.

The BSP is already on backfoot following the arrest of Tiwari. The party quickly denied that Garg had anything to do with the party. The press release issued by the party8217;s state unit said Garg had resigned from the post last year. 8220;He is neither a member of the BSP nor has he got anything to do with the party,8221; the release said.

However, Garg who was kept in the lock-up of Gomti Nagar police station, said he had resigned from his post on Thursday. But he was not ready to speak about his association with the BSP.

Lal said the victim was a native of Aligarh and had told the police that Garg had been sexually exploiting her since 2003. In 2003, she had lodged a case against the then circle officer, Veer Singh, and the then SDM, O P Verma, under sections 363, 366 and 420 of the IPC. 8220;The police have already submitted chargesheet in that case. The trial is pending,8221; he said.

On being contacted the DIG Aligarh range Brij Bhushan said, 8220;She told the police that she had got a job in computer section of Baghpat police with the help of Garg about a year back. She has charged Garg with blackmailing her with the help of a CD.8221;
