Baba Seechewal supporters to clean drain

JALANDHAR: With the Jalandhar’s municipal corporation not treating sewer water,volunteers under the leadership of Baba Bulbar Singh Seechewal are building bundhs to filter the dirty water. Around 15 to 20 low lying bundhs will be raised in the Kala Sanghai drain at a distance of one kilometre till it flows into the Chitti Bein (Rivulet). The bundhs will help in clearing the water by collecting sediments and other pollutants. The drain was closed on May 18 by people living on the sides of the drain due to the flow of highly polluted water. Then Divisional Commissioner Jalandhar,S R Ladhar had taken strict action against the industry and the MCJ to prevent sludge from flowing into the drain.

SAD general secretary hails RTS legislation

CHANDIGARH: While hailing the decision of the SAD-BJP government to empower citizens by enacting the Right to Service legislation,the SAD General Secretary,Prem Singh Chandumajra,slammed the Pradesh Congress President Capt Amarinder Singh’s for terming the bill anti-people. According to Chandumajra,the reaction reflected Capt. Amarinder’s perception that people should be lorded over and not served. In a statement issued here today,Chandumajra said this decision was yet another milestone in line with the basic premise of the Akali Dal which is service and emanated from more than half of century of public life of Badal who fully realises the travails of the common man.

Hike in DRF for ex-legislators and families

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has enhanced the rate of dearness relief payable to the pensioners or family pensioners of ex-legislators of the Haryana Legislative Assembly from the existing 103 per cent to 115 per cent of the basic pension or family pension and dearness pension or dearness family pension with effect from January 1,2011.

New hostel for Haryana legislators

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said a new hostel for members of Haryana Legislative Assembly will be built here. While distributing laptops and printers equipped with scanners to the MLAs,Hooda urged them to use technology to track details of expenditure incurred in development work to ensure equal development to all areas in their constituencies.

‘HP docs paid more than chief secy’

NAHAN: Himachal Health Minister Dr Rajiv Bindal said the salary of doctors in the state,which is more than the chief secretary of the state government,was against norms. He said senior doctors were paid Rs 1 lakh and more while the salary of Chief secretary was Rs. 80000 and added doctors posted on contract basis were also paid a handsome salary. Dr Bindal was also critical of Congress leader Asha Kumari’s statement,who claimed that the BJP failed to provide better health and other facilities to public.

HC orders top cops to file affidavits

CHANDIGARH: Taking stock of allegations made by Ferozepur residents that the Director-General of Police,Punjab and Ferozepur Senior Superintendent of Police had influence over the courts and the police,the Punjab and Haryana High Court has asked the top police officials to file their personal affidavits in this regard. The High Court took cognisance of an application from a labourer over the disappearance of his wife,Parvati Devi alias Paro. A letter received by the High Court was converted into a petition.
