An under-19 woman cricketer has accused Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association MPCA joint secretary Alpesh Shah of molesting her in his office after calling her to give special blessings.
Though the incident allegedly happened in September, the MPCA reportedly tried to hush up the matter by saying there was nothing more to be done after Shah apologised to the victim and her father the same evening.
When the matter became public Wednesday, the MPCA set up a four-member probe team with the mandate to submit a report within two weeks. The association said it would take penal action only after receiving the report.
The victims father said that after the alleged incident took place on September 23 in Shahs office at Usha Raje Stadium,he called MPCA chairman M K Bhargava, who in turn called MPCA secretary Menon and the accused. Shah apologised to me and my daughter but I am not satisfied, he said.
Asked why he did not approach the police, the father said he had full faith in the association. He said his daughter was so traumatised that she has not picked up the cricket bat since then. The victim told her family that when Shah tried to molest her,she pushed him and ran outside. She reportedly heard him say you wont be able to play cricket again.
Shah could not be contacted despite repeated attempts. He was reported as having said that the victim was like his daughter and she mistook his intention.
