Threatened by security bills

Our status-anxious netas are becoming a real source of embarrassment for the country. Last month when Gujarat CM Narendra Modi went to Japan, accompanied by an enormous business delegation, his staff refused to settle for security that did not match the Z-plus the CM gets here. The Japanese Government, not used to such demands from a guest, tried but could not meet the expectations of Modi8217;s officials. Finally, a chafed Tokyo requested India to hire private guards. Last heard, the Indian Embassy ran up a huge bill sparking off a series of advisories asking securitywallahs to rationalise requirement and not issue whimsical threat reports.
