AUSTRALASIA CUP: 13 April, 1994 Sharjah

The debut ODI game for UAE. 10 years have passed since, and only two survivors from that match remain on the Indian side, and both will remember the match with fondness. Sachin Tendulkar made a belligerent 63, and Anil Kumble bowled a tight spell of 2/34.

On the whole, the match was one-sided. But despite that, the UAE players did enough to leave the ground with their heads held high. That the UAE batsmen passed 200 in their very first international 8212; that too against an established side 8212; was creditworthy, and it was even more so, when you consider that the team was made up primarily of expats from India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

BRIEF SCORES: India 273-5 in 50 overs S Tendulkar 63, M Azharuddin 81, V Kambli 81 n.o. bt UAE 202-9 in 50 overs Mazhar Hussain 70, V Mehra 43; J Srinath 3/49, Bhupinder Singh Sr 3/34, A Kumble 2/34 by 71 runs
