The Defence Ministry has once again prepared a cabinet note for establishing a national war memorial, the third such note in the past five years. Minister Antony has also put his weight behind the issue by penning a letter to the PM asking him to pursue the case. However, the timing of the affair—when the UPA Government is nearing the end of its term—has elicited the armed forces’ scepticism. The NDA government too had failed to start work on such a memorial and senior officers are not convinced about the ability of this government to deliver on the memorial either.
