The turnout of students in state-run schools and colleges remained poor while teachers were present in full strength on Tuesday.
Various private schools like St James School,the Heritage School,Shri Shikshyatan,Ballygunge Shiksha Sadan,South Point remained closed.
General secretary,West Bengal Government School Teachers Association,Dipak Das said the attendance was thin at around 40 state-run schools. In various districts,too,there was a low turnout of students in schools.
Prasanta Sharma,principal,South City College said the attendance of teachers and other staffs were normal today,but no students came to college. Most teachers wrapped up work within an hour. A parent,whose son is a second year student of a reputed college,said he did not send his son to college apprehending clashes.
Meanwhile,other college authorities said there were no major clashes in the colleges as apprehended.
Dipak Kar,principal,Asutosh College said most students were absent and no untoward incident was reported on the college premises.
Trinamool Congress Chatra Parishads Tamoghna Ghosh,however,refuted that attendance of students was poor and claimed that classes were held at various colleges. SFIs state president Koustav Chatterjee said the bandh was successful and most state-run schools and colleges remained closed.
