Sarangpur constructions not illegal: HC
The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday ruled there is nothing illegal about the construction of flats in Sarangpur. The development assumes significance since the Chandigarh Administration had issued a demolition notices to the builder on the ground that the flats constructed were in violation of building laws. The notices were issued in 2001.There are over 350 flats constructed in the area and are yet to be allotted.
Link Aadhar numbers with bank accounts and gas connections: UIDAI
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI),Chandigarh has directed banks and LPG distributors to sensitize consumers about linking their Aadhar numbers with bank accounts and gas connections.
Deputy Director General (UIDAI) Keshni Anand Arora held a meeting on Tuesday with concerned Deputy Commissioners,senior officials from oil marketing companies,senior bank officials and LPG dealers as the second phase of Direct Benefit Transfer scheme for LPG will be launched in five districts of Punjab by September 1.
SUV accident: Police trace driver to Ferozepur
A day after Gurdev Singh was killed after being hit by an SUV,police traced the location of the driver to Ferozepur in Punjab. The Fortuner bearing a Punjab registration number (PB-05U-0018),had hit a cyclist at Rock Garden turn in Sector 1.
Schools celebrate Sadhbhavna Diwas
Shivalik Public School,Sector 41,celebrated Sadhbhavna Diwas with a paper-reading contest,where students were enlightened about Rajiv Gandhi and his mission,while NSS Volunteers took the sadbhavna pledge.
Ryan International School,Sector 49,conducted a special assembly on the occasion with Bible reading,and a speech. The idea was to eschew violence and promote goodwill among people. The week beginning on Tuesday till September 3 will be observed as ‘Communal Harmony Fortnight.
Chandigarh Cong pays tribute to Rajiv Gandhi
The Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee (CTCC),on Tuesday,paid tribute to Late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan,Sector 35. While addressing the gathering,B B Bahl,President CTCC said Gandhi was a leader with mission and vision.
Also,a sadbhavna pad yatra was organised by members of the Youth Congress at Bapu Dham,Sector 26,while pamphlets explaining benefits of the Food Security Ordinance were distributed.
