With the southwest monsoon continuing on its forward journey,it entered Satara on Tuesday and is expected to reach Pune by Wednesday.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD)’s prediction, monsoon will reach Pune within the next 24 hours. Like Monday’s heavy downpour, thundershowers were witnessed on Tuesday as well, with IMD recording 7.2 mm rains till Tuesday evening. Satara and several other regions also received torrential rainfall, causing traffic snarls along the NH-4. Heavy rains were also reported in parts of Mann and Khatav in Satara, which were in the throes of water scarcity.

The progress of this year’s monsoon has been well within time and is in fact a day earlier than normal in central Maharashtra. It is speculated that Mumbai would get rainfall within the first week of the onset of monsoon in the state. Normally, monsoon reaches Mumbai by June10.

As of late Tuesday evening, the northern limit of the monsoon passed through Satara,Harnai,Gulbarga,Hyderabad,Nadigama and other areas. The monsoon has also made significant progress in the Bay of Bengal.
