In an effort to revive traditional folk art,Baaya Design has collaborated with folk and contemporary artists. The store,located in Lower Parel,will hold an exhibition-cum-auction this month of collaborative pieces designed by the artists.

Baaya Design,formed in 2009,has previously displayed clay figurines,sabai baskets and trays,dhokra pieces,and basta wrought iron products by folk artists. The store will see artists such as Arzan Khambatta,Brinda Miller,Jaya Lamba,Shola Carletti,Bina Aziz and Gurucharan showcasing their work in Warli art,Gond art,Bengal Patachitra art,Dokra art,Gond art,and furniture pieces with carved wooden work.

Shibani Jain,founder and owner,Baaya Design,says that with this initiative she hopes to bridge the rural-urban gap. The work by the artists will be on display from September 12 to 19 followed by the auction on September 21. The funds collected at the auction will go to an NGO,Catalysts for Social Action(CSA).
