A city court on Wednesday dismissed the bail plea filed by BSP MP Dhananjay Singh,accused of abetting the murder of his domestic help. It also directed police to provide protection to the other two domestic helps,the principal witnesses,till their statements were recorded during trial.
The MP from Jaunpur,Uttar Pradesh,has been accused of aiding and abetting the murder of the help Rakhi has torture of two other helps at the hands of his wife Jagriti. Both were arrested on November 5 in connection with the case.
Noting that the allegations against him were very serious,Magistrate Gomati Manocha dismissed Singhs bail plea.
In view of the previous conduct and antecedents of the accused,Dhananjay Singh,he does not deserve any leniency by this court. Therefore,in view of the facts and circumstances of the case,this court is not inclined to grant bail to accused Dhananjay Singh at this stage…. The application at hand is hereby dismissed, the court held.
The court also directed police to provide protection to the other two domestic helps and asked the Joint Secretary (Home) of the Delhi government to provide necessary cooperation to police for providing safe abode and other facilities at state expenses,to ensure the security of the two witnesses and their families.
The two witnesses,Meena and a 17-year-old boy,have also been abused and beaten allegedly by the MPs wife.
The court also took note of the statement given by Meena,alleging that Dhananjay was aware of the torture they suffered at the hands of Jagriti. She claimed that the MP encouraged his wife to beat them.
While rejecting Dhananjay’s bail,the court also said that he was in a commanding and formidable position to misuse the benefit of bail.
