HARARE, March 22: Mohammad Waseem held Pakistan together with a gritty innings of 96 not out on the second day of the second test against Zimbabwe today.

They were indebted to an innings of laboured determination from Mohammad Waseem, who batted for a little under six hours, faced 244 balls and struck nine fours.

He survived just the one chance when, on 81, he hit a relatively simple return catch to seam bowler Mpumelelo Mbangwa which was put down.

But two wickets in successive deliveries from Mbangwa brought some life to the third and final session on a day generally played at a snail8217;s pace because of combination of accurate bowling, a slow pitch and several out of form Pakistan batsmen.

Mbangwa had Test best figures of three for 31 by the close. In taking four wickets in the evening session, the home side gained the initiative after the opening Test of the two-match series was drawn.
