MUMBAI, JULY 1: In a dramatic turnaround, Sahara Airlines 8212; which triggered off the fare war on the domestic aviation sector 8212; today abruptly cancelled discounts offered by it on all sectors except Mumbai-Delhi.

According to airline sources, the tickets will now be sold for the pre-discounted fare on all destinations served by Sahara from Mumbai, like Goa, Bangalore, Lucknow, Patna and Calcutta.

While no airline official was available for comment, sources explained that the airline management had to take this decision in view of the falling revenue from these sectors.

Sahara was the first to introduce a discount of a Rs 1,000 on the Mumbai-Delhi ticket in May, but gradually also offered similar discounts on other sectors served by it. However, Sahara took a beating when both Jet Airways and Indian Airlines almost simultaneously retaliated by slashing fares on the Mumbai-Delhi sector.

With this cancellation, the fare war is now restricted only on the Mumbai-Delhi sector, the busiest in the country, with all both Jet and Sahara selling tickets for Rs 4,111 instead of the regular fare of Rs 5,111. Indian Airlines recently announced a discount of Rs 1,300 on this sector, and made the economy class ticket even cheaper than the First Class Rajdhani Express fare between Mumbai and Delhi. The Indian Airlines ticket is available for Rs 3,800.
