Burglary

Three cases of house breaking were reported in the city on Sunday in which the thieves decamped with the booty including cash and ornaments to the tune of over Rs 18 lakh.

In the first case of housebreaking at Colaba, the burglars stole cash worth Rs 50,000 and ornaments worth Rs ten lakh. In another case, the burglars stole cash and ornaments worth Rs 4.5 lakh from a flat at Nagpada, when the occupants had gone to visit their relatives at Jogeshwari.

The burglar had entered from the bathroom, the police said. In the third case, cash and ornaments worth Rs 3.18 lakh were stolen from the flat of a doctor at Chembur, who had gone to Lonavala along with his family on Sunday.

The investigation is on in all the three cases and no arrests have been made so far.

Eminent personalities of the city will join Lata Mangeshkar in the renditon of Saare jahan se Achha on the midnight of August 14. The event has been organised as a special contribution to the organisation CRY, a press release said, and has been sponsored by Cadbury Schweppes. The personalities who will join the songstress include Nani Palkhivala,Ratan Tata, R P Goenka, Harsh Goenka, Kamal Hassan and Anil Kapoor.
