Fanaa: Bhatt moves SC

Film producer Mahesh Bhatt today approached the Supreme Court with a petition seeking directions to the DGP of Gujarat for providing security to cinema halls in the state which wanted to screen Aamir Khan-starrer Fanaa.

A Vacation Bench of Justice Arijit Pasayat and Justice C K Thakker, however, declined to give any specific date to hear the plea. The SC asked the petitioner to first file a memo before it considered their request for a date for hearing.

Initially the court expressed its reluctance, asking the petitioner’s counsel ‘‘what orders can we pass?’’. The Bench told the counsel that the distributor concerned should approach the local police for protection.

A slew of organisations in Gujarat had come out against exhibiting Fanaa in the state following Aamir Khan’s comments on the Narmada issue.
