Fanaa: Bhatt moves SC

Film producer Mahesh Bhatt today approached the Supreme Court with a petition seeking directions to the DGP of Gujarat for providing security to cinema halls in the state which wanted to screen Aamir Khan-starrer Fanaa.

A Vacation Bench of Justice Arijit Pasayat and Justice C K Thakker, however, declined to give any specific date to hear the plea. The SC asked the petitioner to first file a memo before it considered their request for a date for hearing.

Initially the court expressed its reluctance, asking the petitioner8217;s counsel 8216;8216;what orders can we pass?8217;8217;. The Bench told the counsel that the distributor concerned should approach the local police for protection.

A slew of organisations in Gujarat had come out against exhibiting Fanaa in the state following Aamir Khan8217;s comments on the Narmada issue.
