VADODARA, Oct 5: The first day of the SSC and HSC trial examinations began on a peaceful note on Monday with no cases of malpractice or cheating reported from any of the examination centres.

District Education Officer DEO R Nanavati said that since this was the first time that the bar coding system was being introduced, students were first explained the system and how to paste the stickers on their answer-scripts.

Of the 4,300 students, who were to appear for their SSC examinations on Monday, 3,963 students were present while 337 were absent.

While SSC students wrote their language and social studies paper, HSC science students appeared for their physics paper and general stream students answered their economics paper.

While 421 students appeared for the HSC examinations during the morning session as many as 973 students answered their papers during the afternoon session. A total 221 students did not appear for the papers on the first day.

Meanwhile, the Higher Secondary Teachers8217; Association has criticised the decision to do away with District squads and only deploy Flying squads to check irregularities. The association said the decision was inconveniencing them as now they were being assigned duty at schools, which were away from their residences and they were also not given conveyance allowance.
