CALCUTTA, Aug 16: Tragedy struck a fierce blow when eight labourers died at Khura village in Raniganj District, while digging in an abandoned mine which caved in Thursday morning.

Rescue operations began immediately after the accident, manned by the local police, Eastern Coalfields Ltd ECL officials and villagers. Three dead bodies were dug out yesterday and five more till today evening. The West Bengal Police WBP Headquarters sources here said, the rescuers on the job do not expect the toll to exceed 12.
